Meditation seems to be good for the heart. Meditators are less likely to have diabetes or suffer from a stroke and coronary artery disease, researchers have discovered.

The full list of heart health benefits is impressive. Meditators are only half as likely to have coronary artery disease—a precursor of a heart attack when arteries become blocked and harden—and are far less likely to have high cholesterol levels, or suffer from diabetes, have a stroke and suffer from high blood pressure (hypertensive).

Researchers from the Baylor College of Medicine surveyed more than 61,000 people, around 10 percent of whom regularly meditated, and the most common techniques were focused attention and awareness.

The findings confirm those of a 2017 study, but the researchers say they can't definitively prove meditation reduces heart disease. People who meditate could also have a healthier lifestyle, such as having a better diet and exercising.
