Commission publishes the 2017 Annual RASFF Report

The European Commission received 3832 notifications of food or feed risks in 2017 according to the report on the use of the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed. 942 of these were classified as "alert", indicating a serious health risk for which rapid action was required.

 

Five genetically modified organisms authorised for food and feed use

The Commission has adopted in August 2018 authorisation decisions of five GMOs for food and feed use. The decisions concern 2 new authorisations and the renewal of 3 existing ones. They are valid for 10 years. Any related products will be subject to the EU's strict labelling and traceability rules.

 

Fight against food fraud: 45 tons of illegally treated tuna seized in Spain

Investigators found that frozen tuna only suitable for canning had been illegally treated with substances that enhance the colour and then placed on the market as fresh fish. The investigation was coordinated by EUROPOL under the OPSON VII operation, in collaboration with the European Commission and other Member States.
